WP10 Stakeholders

WP leader: ILE SAS, Lubos Halada

The activities, carried out in WP10 and the implementation responsibility are focused on stakeholder involvement and dissemination of project results.
EBONE aims to contribute to European policy integration as well as World wide integration  and includes also regional policy, if applicable with a specific emphasis on biodiversity monitoring and nature conservation. To achieve this aim it is important to engage a wide audience, including

  • European policy-makers - Habitat Commission, DG Environment, the European agencies and others;
  • National/regional policy-makers and conservation managers/practitioners - implementing agencies and providers of monitoring data
  • GEO BON Community (The Group on Earth Observations - Biodiversity Observation Network)
  • Standardization organisations/initiatives in relevant fields - INSPIRE development group, relevant projects like LUCAS, GIGAS and GEOLAND 2 working on metadata and data standards, etc.
  • The scientific community

Working relations with the most important groups and their representatives are important in the process of system development. EBONE has a substantial and solid foundation for communication and dissemination of its results and products, through its large pool of partners, stakeholders and associates.
Dissemination and communication has been started from the beginning of the project with GEOSS and GEO-BON, the working group on biodiversity. As soon as possible contacts have been made with other organisations to get them involved and to exchange information (Diversitas, Lifewatch, GBIF, MARBEF, the UK Countryside Survey, BfN, USGS, Dutch Ecological Data Authority, DG Environment, EEA and ETC BD, BioStrat). Preparations have been made to set up the Advisory board and its first meeting was held in January 2009.

For most of our products communication and dissemination will be aimed at specific user groups. National and regional organisations will be involved and ideas exchanged for a useful common system. Raising public awareness of monitoring methods and the role of science for society in measuring biodiversity change is important to involve the general public in national and European conservation actions. This will achieved by:

  • The project website developed for the dissemination of the results to interested users and the general public;
  • Presentations in policy makers meetings and scientific events - participating in international and national events, such as European Science week and Green week; etc.
  • Publishing of targeted printed matter, suitable for a general audience and for educational purposes in different European languages;
  • Producing and disseminating leaflets and brochures.
  • Dissemination of press releasses and papers/products that could be of general interest using the International Press Centre for Biodiversity Research (IPCB).

As an outcome of activities undertaken under WP10, the following downloadable information about project is available for the wider public: project newsletter, project presentation, leaflet in different languages, etc. Under: Newsletter and downloads.

The project coordinator is responsible for the communication and the implementation responsibility is shared with the WP leader of WP10, ILE SAS.
